Shooting Schedule

This was a brief shooting schedule we made according to our free periods. We haven't listed what periods we were free but we counted the number of frees we had on the same day and worked on editing and if one of us was free, we worked on the construction of the ancillary tasks indivudually. Overall, making a small shooting schedule was quite helpful as we were committed to it and even spent 6 weekends at Maleeha's house for filming, rather than 4 as we wanted to complete all our filming as soon as we could so we could start editing.

Extra Research of Existing Solutions

This is a recent case which reflects the modelling theory quite significantly. A Breaking Bad fanatic killed a police officer and dissolved his body in a bath full of acid. 
This statement shows that media can have a very negative impact on people and although the causation of this may have been a psychological problem, it clearly suggests that modelling theory still exists to this day. The fact that the murderer copied the scene religiously implies that media can be a negative influence and may provoke crime.

These statements clearly show that the murderer was heavily influenced by the brutal scenes and his decoding was done negatively. This links in well with the copycat effect as it demonstrates imitation.

Prelim Construction: Final Video

Here is our final preliminary video. As you can see, we have tried to recreate most of the scenes although location became a problem at times as our setting was obviously not the same as the house in the movie. My favourite scene in this short clip is the cupboard scene as we worked really hard on it as a team and we really pulled off the hand-held effect of the camera. Another problem we faced was the timings of the day as it got dark really quick when we needed some natural light but we just had to work with what we had. At one point, we noticed that we needed the same shot from a different angle so we had to use my phone to film the scene which created a significant change in quality. Next time, we could improve and work with this problem by trying out different lighting or changing it whilst editing. I really liked working with my group as a whole as we all participated and helped each other during the editing process. The shooting schedule was a success as we followed it whilst shooting and we completed the task quite efficiently. Our time management was good at times but at the end, we started slacking as we didn't use our timetable of frees to work on editing.

Here is my group working together on editing one of the worst scenes in the video. This process took up most of our time as it was very different to the actual clap scene. Also, there is a picture of me videoing the close-up scene in our final video, which was the last resort.

Prelim Planning: Shooting Schedule

This is a timetable we made where we noted down what days we were all free and what days some of us were free to work alongside each other. This was very useful as we could tell who could work on the task when others were busy. However, we didn't follow this all the way through and this became a problem at the end as we ran out of time to edit hence why some scenes are quite roughly edited. When we decided to go Aamina's house to use as the setting, we ignored this timetable and this could be something to note in the future as we would really need to abide by a strict timetable in order for all the work to get done on time.




This is the actual shooting schedule we used where we noted down at what time we would be shooting and what exactly will be taking place in the scene. We also added what type of camera angles and shots we will be using to add meaning to our final product and what would be in the background setting, mis-en-scene. This was very useful and is good to use in the future as it provides a full explanation of what happens in each shot.

Prelim Planning: Storyboard

 Here is our storyboard that we all worked on together. In order to do this properly, we timed each shot and wrote a brief description of each shot for example location, lighting and other comments on camerawork. We all participated in this equally as we pitched in our own opinions of each shot and how we could adapt them for our remake. We also considered how to subvert from the actual clip and also considered location as well as actors. Overall, our storyboard planning went good as we all managed to give ideas to each other.

Prelim Planning: Choosing and Analysing The Clap Scene from 'The Conjuring'

This is the clip we chose to remake as a group. We figured at first that this may be a simple scene and not much would be required however, we were proven wrong as there were many shots to remake. At the beginning of the scene, a very long shot is used and the lighting is dark where the woman asks the little girl for the 1st clap. We can see the woman is blindfolded and the camera is hand-held, foreshadowing something creepy about to take place. This has an effect on the audience as it creates an uneasy atmosphere and instigates fear. A tracking shot is then used to follow the woman into another room but before she does this, she hits her leg into the banister, again foreshadowing an unforeseen event.This is when she asks for the 2nd clap.  It is quite dark throughout the hallway until the woman enters the room where the only light present is natural light from the window. The audience are then exposed to shadows of the woman making the scene creepier when suddenly the cupboard opens itself and the 3rd clap is heard loud and clear, making the woman think its the little girl. A closeup tracking shot is used when the woman is walking towards the cupboard making the audience feel uncomfortable. This could also be a point of view shot of whoever was in the cupboard. A faint soundtrack is played in the background to go along with the eery atmosphere. The woman then feels inside the cupboard and finds out that she has lost the game because she has taken off her blindfold and that the girl was hiding in the other room. We have an over the shoulder shot where the woman is looking at the girl, making the audience believe that there is a presence. The scene then ends with a side view of the woman looking through the clothes once more as she feels terrified.

Psycho Clip Analysis

This is the very famous shower scene from the movie Psycho. Produced by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960, he deliberately chose to film in black and white although there was the option of colour at the time. He thought it would be less horrifying which is understandable because when the main character gets in the shower, it is a very gruesome and gory death and if it were to be in colour, it would be really intense. Alfred Hitchcock said that he wanted the audience to 'suffer as much as possible' and although the movie was in black and white, it still was very effective.  Psycho was the first slasher movie ever made and from then on, many films have been using this scene and some main aspects of the movie in their own. The movie was based on a book by Robert Bloch who wrote about the crimes of American serial killer, Ed Gein. Psycho has been inspired by the story of Ed Gein, a body snatcher who lived in isolation with his hyper-moralistic mum. Other movies that have a similar narrative and similar characters is Texas Chainsaw Massacre as the killer, Leather Face is inspired by Gein. The transvestite in Psycho has been inspired by Ed Gein also as he used to dress in woman clothes himself. The psycho killer was committed to a mental hospital institution for life just like Gein so we can see many links between the movies.

To begin with, the scene has around 90 shots and over 70 camera angles and Hitchcock has incorporated them very carefully and managed to not even show the woman's private parts. The high angle of the shower is quite effective as it makes the audience focus on it more than anything else at the time but then the scene takes a sudden twist and the character is brutally murdered in the shower.The movie uses aspects of the male gaze and voyeurism throughout as we see the movie through a male's perspective. This image is clearly through a male's point of view and we are in such a confined space with the character which creates a uneasy atmosphere. There are also intimate scenes at the beginning which is an aspect of voyeurism because it unusual to watch someone in private situations and this is done quite a lot throughout the movie.

Furthermore, there is no music throughout this scene until the actual murder takes place. There is intense music when the woman is being stabbed multiple times and this is in correlation with the hand gestures of the murderer. Little do the audience know that the murderer is a transvestite and that is also another twist in the narrative. Not much takes place within the scene and the main focus is the murder as it is very unexpected. Hitchcock is very good at making links between the scenes in this movie and that is how we as the audience know what to expect or why something is happening. This is very effective as it doesn't leave the audience in question and the narrative and plot is also very clear so that nothing is unexplained. A lot of cross cutting is used in the movie to create a suspense sequence.

To add to this, the room is quite bare with limited amounts of furniture and the woman is alone which clearly sets the scene for the murder.This evidently links to the first scene where the two characters are in a hotel room with sparse furniture. This foreshadows the events that await.
